The UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a temporary reduction in VAT to 5% for goods and services supplied by the tourism and hospitality sectors. The cut will benefit tourism accommodation, attractions, restaurants, cafes and hot-food take-aways. The cut will not include alcohol.
The reduced VAT rated will take effect from 15 July 2020 until 12 January 2021.
The Chancellor also announced plans to give people a 50% discount, up to a maximum of £10 per head, to eat out in restaurants in August.
